If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you may already know that recently I was chosen and recognized among other exceptional individuals to be highlighted in the Who’s Who Black Houston 2016 Book. This book is set to be distributed across the entire city of Houston and beyond in libraries and public schools to serve as an educational and inspirational tool for many. I am completely humbled and honored to be in this book!
I was invited to attend an unveiling ceremony with keynote speaker Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner. The event churned out many influential people and game changers residing in the 4th largest city in the nation (soon to be 3rd.)
I really enjoyed the food that was served, the speech from Mayor Turner and learning about the fact that this 2016, ninth addition is the FIRST time (and possibly last in my lifetime) that the Who’s Who organization has been able to recognize an African American President AND Mayor of my city. What a privilege to be recognized in the same book along with them. I mean… little ol me? My family was there to support me. All the feels…
Here is the snippet from the my bio that was in the book:
“Carissa Stephens is a Houston native who has been able to attract, inspire and influence a global audience ever since she began her YouTube channel (NaturallyGG) in 2011. She is now taking the blogosphere by storm with her recent launch of www.shescharissmatic.com, a life blog dedicated to inspiring others. On her website Carissa writes about beauty, style, travel, love, and tips for living a happier and healthier life. From her site she also operates an e-commerce store. In addition to her blog and channel, her passions include public speaking, spokes-modeling, coordinating and hosting events. She’s worked with many beauty brands such as Cantu, L’Oreal Paris, and Dark and Lovely to name a few. Catch her this summer as she hosts at ESSENCE Festival for their Style and Beauty Expo in New Orleans!
As a mentor, Carissa is big on education! She is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and The University of Houston were she obtained her Bachelor of Business in Management Degree and a certification in Accountancy and Taxation, respectively. She enjoys business and has recently held the title of Tax Operations Analyst for a Fortune 100 Energy company. She believes everyone should follow their dreams.”
